SHEKHAWATI

CASTLE MANDAWA

Like many historic homes, Castle Mandawa is a curious mixture of the old and the new. Medieval turreted towers, palanquinroofed balconies, blend with modern comforts in old-world rooms. Family portraits, antique cannons and arms add to the charm of this family-run resort where tradition still runs strong. Today, the world comes to this storybook town to see its colourful frescoes on every subject under the sun, that is, ranging from the religious to the erotic; from copies of popular English prints to witty social satire, rendered in the inimitable style of the local artist. And perhaps the best place to discover the legacy of Shekhawati is from the comfort of Castle Mandawa, a fortress, now converted into a luxurious heritage hotel.

Explore Castle Mandawa at your own pace. Spend a leisurely hour over a drink in the colonial verandah that accommodates the bar, or relax in the cosy comfort of the Diwankhana, the formal drawing room decorated with family portraits and an array of antique armour.

The Happyness Company, in collaboration with OneLatitude, brings you this spectacular experience.

We can’t wait to take you on this journey!

MANDAWA & MAHENSAR

In the bygone ages, Mandawa had been a stop for rich traders who were traversing the silk route. This brought wealth to the region, which can been seen through the lavish ancient havelis that dot this small town.

The walls of the Havelis are intricately painted by hand showcasing their culture, traditions and beliefs. We take a walk with a local historian to learn more about this art form. The town dotted with hand painted havelis is known as the worlds largest open air art gallery.

Post our fresco walk, we head out for an off-road drive to Mahnesar. The 30 Kilometer section will be through desert tracks, taking you through the heart of the desert to the nearby town of Mahensar. Lunch will be at the Mahensar fort followed by dunebashing and a drive back home.
